Color:
This cartoon is supposed to appeal to the youth, being shown
on Cartoon Network. Kids around the age
of 11 seem to really enjoy the show, although it has something for the adults,
making many 80s references with music and videogames. The color part of Regular Show is pretty kid
friendly. It looks like it could have
been drawn with MSPaint. Depending on
the characters, the saturation varies, but is generally very saturated to
contrast the watercolor like backgrounds.
All of the characters also have a very different hue from each other, especially
the two main characters Mordecai (the blue bird) and Rigby (The small Raccoon). This is to help distinguish the characters
from each other and make them identifiable outside of the cartoon.
Lighting:
There isn’t often a lot of lighting effects in the
show. Most of the show looks like the
image of the cast in the band: little shadows with flat color. However, occasionally there will be some kind
of supernatural occurrence where there will be a strong light source, such as
in the image of the group sitting on the couch.
This is one of the few scenes in the show where the characters have a
shadow shown. Because most of the show
is shown in the daylight, it creates a happy mood, almost peaceful and perfect. This is great because any age kid can watch
the show and not be scared or disturbed by it, unless there is a weird scene
for effect.
Movements:
There are many overlapping movements in the show, as the
characters are always fighting and interacting with each other to fix whatever
problems they may have caused in the setup.
The two main characters, Mordecai and Rigby, are constantly fighting
with each other (a testament to their true friendship and their imperfections
of each character). Causing them to get
into physical arguments and flail around in three dimensions. The show also utilizes weight, since one of
their characters is a ghost (High-Five ghost, bet you’ll be able to pick him
out in the images) and he is constantly floating with a ghostly flutter.
